Best Black-Owned Business: Carter's Candles

Carter’s Candles created by University of South Carolina senior Zekilah Carter has won the first-ever Best Black Owned Business in Best of Carolina. Carter’s Candles blossomed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has continued to grow since then, now offering candles, soaps and candle wicks for your relaxation.

Her own encouragement comes from a Bible verse given to her by her grandmother. For her, candles hold the message of prosperity and reaching personal goals. This venture has proven to be prosperous for Carter, continuing to be a way to encourage and improve herself, and to be a pioneer in her family as the first business owner. 

Winning Best of Carolina is an exciting time for Carter. A friend nominated her and informed her she moved on to the voting round, and she was thrilled to encourage her family and friends to vote for her. She is touched that the community takes the time out to support her, honored to have won and has found the Best of Carolina process to be a rewarding experience!
