ABOUT
On Aug. 28, UofSC Student Body Vice President Hannah White hosted a 12-hour podcast-a-thon raising money for the "One Creed, One Carolina" fundraising campaign, which benefits programs that uplift and support Black members of the UofSC community. Hannah and four co-hosts, who joined her for three hours each, interviewed more than 20 influential Black leaders and alumni of UofSC about their lives and the importance of the “One Creed, One Carolina” campaign.

HOST
Hannah White, the current student body vice president of the University of South Carolina, is a junior pursuing a double major in risk management and marketing in the University of South Carolina Honors College. In addition to her role in Student Government, Hannah is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. She also serves as a university ambassador, where her passion for the University of South Carolina is displayed as she educates prospective students from all walks of life on the experiences and resources UofSC has to offer.

Valinda Littlefield
Dr. Valinda Littlefield is a distinguished professor in the Department of African American Studies at UofSC. She has worked on many oral history projects and is the co-editor of the three-volume series South Carolina Women: Their Lives and Times.

Tommy Preston, Jr.
Tommy Preston, Jr., is the director of national strategy and engagement and government operations for The Boeing Company. As an undergraduate student at UofSC, Tommy served as student body president. Tommy was the youngest and first person of color in the university’s history to serve as president of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association.

Moe Brown
Moe Brown is a proud Gamecock and former football player at the University of South Carolina. While attending UofSC, Brown led the football team as captain under former head coach Steve Spurrier. Today, Moe Brown is running for Congress in South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.

Dr. Qiana Whitted
Dr. Qiana Whitted is the chair of the Department of African American Studies at UofSC. She is the author of the award-winning novel EC Comics: Race, Shock, and Social Protest (Comics Culture).

Mayor Steve Benjamin
Mayor Steve Benjamin earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of South Carolina and a juris doctor from the UofSC Law School. He is a former UofSC student body president and the first African-American mayor in Columbia's history.

Megan Pinckney
Megan Pinckney is a UofSC alumna. In 2013, she was crowned Miss South Carolina and placed top 5 in the Miss USA pageant. She currently runs a lifestyle blog called “Shades of Pinck.”

Christian Anderson
Christian Anderson is a distinguished professor in the Department of Higher Education. He graduated with a Ph.D. in higher education from Penn State University. One of Dr. Anderson’s many roles is serving as project director of the NEH Summer Institute about Black Leadership During Reconstruction.

Dr. Henrie Monteith Treadwell
Dr. Treadwell is one of three African-American students who desegregated the University of South Carolina in 1963. She is the first Black woman to graduate from the university. Today, Dr. Treadwell is a professor and the director of Community Voices at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Miss USA, Cheslie Kryst
Cheslie Kryst graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina and earned both her law degree and MBA from Wake Forest University. She was crowned Miss USA in May 2019, and was the third woman from North Carolina to win the competition.
Provost William Tate IV
Dr. William “Bill” Tate is the first Black provost of the University of South Carolina. He came to South Carolina from Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as the dean of the graduate school and vice provost for graduate education.

Dr. Toby Jenkins-Henry
Dr. Toby Jenkins-Henry is an associate professor of higher education and director of the Museum of Education at UofSC. She is also a co-chair of the UofSC President’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board.

Jotaka Eaddy
Jotaka Eaddy was the first Black woman to serve as student body president of the University of South Carolina and is the current CEO of Full Circle Strategies, LLC. Described as the “Olivia Pope of Silicon Valley” by Forbes Magazine, Jotaka is a leading voice in social impact tech and pivotal force in connecting Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C.

Tim Bryson
Tim Bryson currently serves as a national at-large member of the Black Alumni Council. Tim resides in Silver Springs, Maryland, where he serves as a program director for student-athlete career development at the University of Maryland.

Lindsay Richardson
Lindsay Richardson is the second African-American woman to serve as the student body president at UofSC. She is now an associate at Ropes and Gray, LLP where she practices primarily in the firm’s private equity group and represents private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies.

Amber Guyton
Amber Guyton is a national at-large member of the Black Alumni Council. Guyton currently leads product marketing and acquisition strategy, development, and execution of digital marketing campaigns at Affirm Inc. in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Michelle Bryan
From 2006-2015, Michelle L. Bryan was a member of the Educational Foundations and Inquiry faculty in the Department of Educational Studies in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina where she previously taught introductory and advanced qualitative research methods courses, as well as Foundations of Education courses that specifically explored the role of race and racism in educational settings. Most recently, she served as the chair of the Department of Advanced Studies and Innovation at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. In July of 2017, Michelle re-joined the University of South Carolina's College of Education and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Taylor Jennings-Brown
Taylor Jennings-Brown is a senior journalism major in the University of South Carolina’s Honors College. From Durham, NC, she currently serves as a managing editor of Garnet & Black magazine, a partner organization in Garnet Media Group.

Dr. Nicole A. Cooke
Dr. Nicole A. Cooke is the Augusta Baker Endowed Chair and an associate professor at UofSC. She was named a "Mover & Shaker" by Library Journal in 2007, awarded the 2016 ALA Equality Award, and presented with the 2017 ALA Achievement in Library Diversity Research Award by the Office for Diversity and Literacy Outreach Services.

Kayla King is a junior at UofSC and the current host of The Patchwork Feminist podcast. Lyric Swinton is a 2020 graduate of UofSC and the original founder of The Patchwork Feminist.
