The University of South Carolina’s Student Government presents 1801 Live, an event and podcast series highlighting UofSC alumni and student organizations, hosted by Student Body Vice President Emily Dengler. 1801 Live takes its name from the founding year of the university and aims to spark a collaborative conversation between alumni and current student leaders, as we discuss relevant and controversial topics surrounding our campus. This podcast is produced in partnership with Garnet Media Group.

Season 2, Episode 4: Career Readiness

Season 2, Episode 2: Freshman Council Experience

The University of South Carolina's Student Government hosts a program for first-year students called Freshman Council. Join Emily as she talks about the Freshman Council experience and application process with former members Aidan Baker, Faith Gravley, and Ilona Donovan.

Episode 14: What's #OnTheLine With Digital Civility

Tune in as 1801 Live partners with a team of students from the Public Relations Student Society of America’s Bateman Case Study Competition to discuss digital civility and what is #OnTheLine when civility isn't prioritized in-person or online interactions. We’ll talk about the perspective of Generation Z and the transition from being in college to the workforce and what student leaders gain from taking a civility pledge.

Episode 13: UofSC's NAACP Chapter

Tune in as 1801 Live partners with the UofSC NAACP Collegiate Chapter to discuss and reflect on the strong history and efforts of this organization on campus and what goals the executive leadership have for the future.

Episode 11: Post-Election Action with CLEAT

In this episode, Hannah partnered with the Civic Leadership Education Action Team (CLEAT) to discuss post-election civic engagement. We focus on ways to grow in active citizenship, opportunities for involvement after the election, and how to remain resilient as we finish out the semester.

Episode 10: Environmental Justice & Sustainability

Often, when we talk about sustainability, we may only think of preserved natural landscapes or the metal straw we use to save the turtles. A more inclusive perspective shows that sustainability is an interconnected concept that promotes environmental protection while ensuring social justice and economic prosperity. Join Hannah for a conversation with fellow students Claire Windsor and Mackenzie Coon, as well as many knowledgeable speakers about research related to environmental justice.

Episode 9: Hispanic Heritage — Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Hannah had a conversation on Sept. 17 with representatives from the Latin American Student Organization, Kappa Delta Chi, and Phi Iota Alpha to learn more about Hispanic Heritage and specifically what it is like being a Latin American student at UofSC.

Give Black Podcast-a-Thon

On Aug. 28, Hannah hosted a 12-hour podcast-a-thon raising money for the "One Creed, One Carolina" fundraising campaign, which benefits programs that uplift and support Black members of the UofSC community. She was joined by four co-hosts and more than 20 guests to discuss their Black excellence and the importance of the “One Creed, One Carolina” campaign. Episode 8: Let's Relate

On this episode, Hannah has invited guests from each Greek Council at UofSC to have an open and honest conversation about race and race relations on campus. Representatives from the College Panhellenic Association (CPA), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), Interfraternity Council (IFC), and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) will discuss how their personal experiences and recent tragedies have helped them form understandings about race and how they can relate to others. This episode is intended to motivate our listeners to spark conversations like these in their homes, communities and networks.

Episode 2: Transitions Then vs. Now

This week, 1801 Live partnered with the Theta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, to bring back alumna Yvonne Miller to discuss the many transitions of the university and her path from undergrad to a professional career. Yvonne was the first African-American woman to become student body vice president at UofSC. Taryn Moyer joined us to have this conversation as she enjoys her final days as the chapter president and transitions into life post-grad.
